Who happens to be more than qualified can't win. So why would anyone who fits this mold go through the hassle? If they do put there name on line. The majority will just beat them over the head with the National Cultural Wars. Madison Voters, you get what you get because you won't look beyond ideological beliefs and who could do the best job. Until the majority changes there thought process. You will always get what you always got! If you want change. You might want to quit watching so much right wing tv, getting your political news from Facebook, and hanging your hat on something Steven Bannon is telling you on his podcast. If your not happy with current clerk and wonder why nobody is challenging her. Get the mirror out and take a good look. Your the problem because you have established voting patterns over the years and made this town a one party system. Now the one party has a group in total control. They serve up whoever they can control and there is not a darn thing you can do about it until you make a change. Because quality Democrats will not put here names on line, spend the money, and put all the effort towards getting thumped in a general election because they don't have a (R) next to them on the ballot. You did this not us!

Comments: If you think the republicans have their act together you don’t know about the almost fist fight at city hall, one of mayor Bobs best gal pals taping private meetings with the mayor and citizens , how hard long respected and powerful party insiders tried to find a good candidate to primary Courtney. You don’t know how bitter things are behind closed doors about the massive over spending at city hall and Rampys mismanagement in the clerks office. You don’t know about buying votes with jobs and contracts or expecting and demanding campaign contributions from city contractors. Maybe take a look at Courtney’s campaign donations and check out how much the developers that got all the Tif money for the hilltop have given him. Or maybe you forgot the police chief is best buds with the town pervo and there’s three lawsuits at least against the city and most of the county citizens can’t stand the Mf for what he did to water bills. Oh and lest we forget the handout to his blow boy at Mad Paddle the now defunct chamber business of the year and Covid cash rip off artist who was fond of male strip shows. The local republicans don’t have it together they just have more people willing to vote a straight ticket even if it’s for arseholes or drunks. We’ll see if they are willing to sell us all into bankruptcy to keep playing the party line. I’m not one that votes for the party but when choices are Julie or Jan what do you expect people to do. Dans the first candidate dems have with a chance. Of course he actually has to get out there and work and campaign. Maybe make some calls and start knocking on doors. I really don’t think the Datillo name will get him elected . Of course he could ask Julie about that.

Comments: Local leagues have been declining for a very long time. We were asking other counties with leagues to come over and play. Don’t pretend this is recent or new.

Comments: Fan…to blame the fall of the current Madison basketball program on decreased park and rec city league participation is ridiculous. Almost every other town in Indiana has seen their numbers drop in local league participation with a rise in number of players playing AAU and travel sports. This is also true in soccer, volleyball, baseball, softball and other sports.
So the question is, why are other towns succeeding with this formula, but Madison is struggling? Is it the coaching on the youth travel teams here? My guess is no, as there are bad coaches in lots of communities.
My guess is the reason players are transferring to other schools has less to do with playing a weaker schedule and more to do with the athletic and school culture the other schools have compared to Madison’s culture.
I don’t have the answer, but I do believe the local city league decline has nothing to do with it.

Comments: I am sure there are some local attorneys who read this forum everyday. I have a question and concern about our school system. It seems that alot of our high school kids are getting expelled from school for the rest of the school year if they are caught on school property with a THC vape or marijuana. Alot of the kids are first time offenders. The school allows the parents to appeal the expulsion, but the vast majority are kicked out for the rest of the school year even after their appeal is heard. My problem with this is, not all kids are expelled. Some kids are allowed to return after serving a 10 day expulsion. How can this be considered fair? Is there a basis for a lawsuit? Obviously, it is more about who you are in this town. And why would the school system think it is ok to let these kids slide further down the drain by kicking them out of the only educational opportunity they have? I would like to hear from any attorneys that may visit this page. Thank you.

Comments: I have a local donor interested in donating 250k -500k to a local group that supports Vietnam and post combat veterans programs. They are asking about funds that go direct to the veteran to assist that veteran. They do not want to support a veterans memorial, cemetery etc. they prefer to ease burdens of our combat vets. I’ve been unable to locate such a group. I’ve found groups that pay for college for kids of any vet - groups that pay to transport any vet to VA, groups that help spouse of deceased any vet but not a single program that gives money directly to combat vets that need a little help. If you know of any local organization that meets their criteria please post it. Ive reached out to a couple of other groups but so far no one knows of anyone that helps combat vets with personal burdens. Thanks Tami.

Comments: The challenges for the Madison Boys Basketball Program began many years ago with the increasing popularity of travel basketball teams (AAU, etc).
The best players quit playing in the City League Program, and those that remained were either marginally talented or daddy coached the team and made sure his son was the focus of every play so the other kids lost interest and quit playing. Others transferred to other area high schools to play in weaker conferences and win more games. Nobody wants to lose 20 games per year, many of the blowouts.
We need a coach that will stay and rebuild the City’s Program from the ground up to develop a pipeline of talent. Unfortunately, our youth Programs are on life support since the firing of Scott Davidson and David Stucker by Mayor Courtney.
Good luck to the kids.

Comments: I wish the political parties would disband. You run on who you are and not be beholding to past intrests. Long time office holders need to step aside. Most are stale after a few years but its hard to root them out.In all situations their ego and arrogance keeps them in.

Comments: Where do we begin.
As jb said, we need to get rid of the old dead weight and create some excitement within the local democrat party.
The firs order of business would be to boot Chair person John Hutchison to the curb and install fresh new blood who are eager to learn and serve the party. Along with John, the usual baggage of the old hangers-on need to step back and let fresh blood have a chance at putting some spirit and soul into the party here in madtown.
The repubs pretty much have their act together, and maybe the dems could take lessons from them.
