VIEW FROM THE PORCH

It was a shocker when on a regular drive along the river on Vaughn Drive to enjoy Madison's beautiful river front, we were distracted by the tinsel town of Disney World or worse!  How could anyone allow those chintzy line figures of rain deer and snowmen to be placed on one of the finest river fronts on the Ohio?  People on the River front Development Committee say they thought that they meant the kind of decorations they had enjoyed in years past--tasteful greens and bows on the lights.

City Council members say they weren't given a choice.  The Chamber of Commerce, that is responsible, seems to be of the opinion this will bring carloads of shoppers to downtown.  Shopping after 6:00 p.m. is limited in downtown and we sure hope they won't come to view this cheap display during the day!  To those businesses that have made the mistake of sponsoring this mess, we suggest they try it somewhere else, if it's for the children, how about the Rucker Sports Complex and Playground for all Children?  Both children and adults enjoy good light shows at Christmas, but not on the river front where dozens of people have worked for years to create a fine walk for everyone to enjoy.  Come on folks, whatever happened to good taste!

Does any of this matter to you? If so, We would love to hear about it -- complaints as well as compliments.
