So downtown shop owners are panicking. Seems the mayor closing Main Street in peak tourist time did some big harm to those small businesses. Combine that with tariffs and inflation and now the sky high health premiums and we got another group of half dozen or so planning to close. If you can shop downtown try to help them out.

What can you tell me about the Knights of Pythias Building - 314 Jefferson Street? It looks like it would be a great renovation.
Thanks!

Bethaney is for a good cause. But nobody in this county is worth $29.000 a month in Jefferson county unless you own a factory. I don' care what the board thinks.

How many years has it been since a train came down that incline? The tracks are full of storage cars now at the top of the hill!

I love that residents have not taken down their "Save the Riverfront" and "Say No to New Zoning" signs. I smile every time I see them. We may have lost the battle, but we have not lost the war.

I think some of you may be missing the point on the CEO pay. Maybe Show can clarify.

I didn’t get the impression there was any criticism of the work of either foundation. Both provide great value and service to the community.

I think the point was that $350,000 to run Bethany is too much money.
If the community foundation can be run by a CEO making $150,000 why does Bethany need to pay $350,000. Seems like the community foundation is a lot more work.

$200,000 a year away from the CEO position could fund a lot of health initiatives in Jefferson County.

How many school lunches would that pay for?
It would go along long way to fund a homeless shelter or drug rehab center.

I’ve sent Jeff a pdf file to toss up at the top of the page for the Riverfront lawsuit which was filed today. I’ve no idea if Jenner saw it yet or will catch it tomorrow. You can copy and paste this link to view all the documents and filing-

https://public.courts.in.gov/mycase/#/vw/CaseSummary/eyJ2Ijp7IkNhc2VU b2tlbiI6InBobTJDZjlzanVJTTNGajdDQW5lN2ZGdkEyRXZLZWszcnZyUGF0TkpMUzAxIn19

The Case Number is 39D01-2511-PL-001089

Thank you to everyone who assisted in preparing the information for our attorneys in Indianapolis and for the all the support from so many people throughout the fight. The city may push to dismiss- we shall see if the judge agrees- it’s unlikely -but you never know. For the most part we can expect the case to take many months - therefore - nothing happens until the lawsuit is settled. So enjoy your holidays and we will post updates as the case moves forward. Tjh

Street Reporter: “Democracy may be dead in Madison.” People’s concerns are ignored. “Why attend meetings”…. In other words you are saying, the people are now quiet, and the administration has won.

@Budget:
I believe a vast majority of the citizens of Madison have lost total faith in local City Government Officials. They don't believe anything proposed or being done by the Courtney Administration or the City Council. They believe nothing is on the up and up. The vast majority is a 50/50 split among Democrats and Republicans. When these elected officials say it is local Democrats. It's just not true and the residents of this city know this is clearly not the case. Here is what I believe to be the reason:
A. We know you don't want to hear it. But the behavior of these officials regarding the Riverfront Apartments made 8/10 Madisonians fear they don't have a voice anymore. Democracy maybe dead in Madison,Indiana.
B. The Madison people see almost every department failing miserably.
C. They see City Officials with horrible attitudes when they come to them for assistance.
D. They see the Mayor and others lie for special people. Ex: John Schneider and his R.V. at the Campground. The Mayor and the Parks Department say he is not using City utilities. People have photos. This is just one of dozens of stories we could tell about others getting special treatment. Not just Mr. Schneider.
E. Courtney looks horrible. Some say he drinks too much. Some say it is the stress of the job. Whatever it is. It looks like he can't handle the job.
When you say you are being transparent about the budget. Maybe you are. However, the people see it to be a waste of time to ask questions or attend these meetings. They know this City Council and Mayor will do whatever they want. They will lie about whatever to reverse the spin. So why attend. They would rather save the energy for the next election and get a new more trustworthy group to start over in January of 2028. The bottom line is the good people of Madison do not believe anybody in City Government except for Patrick Thevenow. The damage is done for these officials. The people have lost faith in the current leadership of City Officials. Those officials have nobody to blame but themselves. So, when you say the budget seems transparent. It is too little too late for this group. It "seems transparent" doesn't cut it. In fact, nothing will ever cut it. The damage is done and they can't come back from it.
