I do not usually get into local politics, but from what I gather about the mayor, looks like he is acting just like our great President (sarcasm). Anyone who goes against him is in BIG trouble. You are either fired, harassed, or have it made so hard on you that you just give up, or he gets everyone to turn against them by being afraid he will turn on them. Wonder how many he has flipped off and no one chased him down. I only get on here every once in a while, but seems to me there is a storm brewing in Madison....again.

The Thevenow family has been residents of this community many generations. As well as my ancestors and other citizens. I'm not sure about Bob's but I know who he represents. Tourist and new residents. Something that has always bothered me is they all move here because they like our small town. But then they choose to get into political forums and want to change OUR small town. Why change our town for the benefit of them. Ancestrial families don't have the town they lived and supported for so many years.

Ivy Tech graduation.
You may not realize that graduates are from many southeastern Indiana counties.
I know one student who comes here from Floyd County!
Madison has the campus, but they serve many counties!

Lets be clear Memorial Day is a solemn day to thank those who died for our freedoms. Among them FREE SPEECH. Long ago the courts said * * * was free speech; it wasn't even considered pornographic. Most persons don't even consider it obscene; the vast majority of persons are quite able and willing to ignore it. Why Bob wasn't able to contain himself, is a sad but interesting question.

Second, no one has confirmed or witnessed the volunteer "* * *". In fact, it can be argued that even the mayor had no idea what actually happened. He had to ask her if she did "flip him the bird."

Third to falsely claim someone else "started it" is aside from being an argument often put forth by a child or uneducated person, demonstrates how many are willing to forgive bullying and its more adult and dangerous form, fascism. This forum has, on occasion, allowed public posts which refer to the mayor as a Nazi. Rightfully so, again, free speech is critical to our nations democracy. Bob has a long and public history of abusing multiple citizens; he has intimidated, threatened and used the city and courts as his personal tool for political vendettas. If anyone started anything it was Bob; he is furious with the volunteers fiance' who happens to also be the city councilman who among many things, exposed the mayors plan for luxury condos in the riverfront, historic district.

While CASA may be a good cause, its leadership has fallen subject to well deserved public ridicule. No one should side with the person who allows a political vendetta to bleed into the cause of protecting children. Yet, here we are, in this small town with a few poorly informed, Un-American citizens still arguing that the mayor can eliminate free speech, stalk and confine a young woman while his wife is laughing and encouraging him to do so. Among those who simply celebrate Memorial Day as a 3 day weekend and argue in favor of Nazi like behavior such as Bobs recent tantrums, I ask of you, "How would you feel if I approached your employer, your church or volunteer group and told them you were supporting Nazis and needed to be fired, kicked out of your church or banned from volunteering"? This is a slippery slope and I urge every citizen to fight hard for the right of free speech against a mayor who clearly doesn't know why we celebrate Memorial Day.

Allegedly someone flipped off a politician; not hard to imagine in these times. I would think one would need thick skin to be in politics today. Now let's imagine a scenario where he follows up with saying, " I saw you waving at me. Is there something you wanted to ask me?" and left it there. For Pete's sake grow-up. Don't follow people home unless you are concerned for their safety and stop all of the petty retaliation. Micro aggressions are a communicable disease. They spread like wild fire and do no good.

Special thanks to my two sources who helped me sort out accurate and honest information regarding Ivy Tech Graduation and the presidents residence. Harsin is in fact a resident of Jefferson County. Molly Dodge switched the graduation from Hanover College to Belterra several years back. I am told Molly did so in part because she hoped to capture Belterras training programs . Many colleges do break up their graduation into manageable groups. Perhaps instead of heading to Belterra - They might consider their own auditorium for a ceremony for certificate graduates, one for their own programs and a graduation for high school kid with associate Ivy Tech degrees. Cuts the costs- does a more transparent and honest job of reflecting who actually has acquired an Ivy Tech degree etc and mostly just makes it possible for families to see their graduates without trekking across two county’s to do so. FYI- most universities and even larger colleges do have several ceremonies. Thanks again to my sources. Tjh

At the end of the day, I feel saddened for the fact that this person was blindsided and locked in a vice between two people who should have chose better. They quite literally forced a decision to be made that no one was going to be happy with at the end. I believe everyone will always have an opinion of what that could have or should have looked like but this person has a duty to keep focus on over a hundred children and a huge network of court officers, not the obvious spat that took place. I’m wondering if she was even aware that there was an ongoing feud between Thevenow’s and Courtney’s. I also feel like those individuals had a responsibility to bring that to her attention long ago in order for her to even remotely begin to handle it with a sit down before all this happened. I know those ladies were volunteers, and they need volunteers but not those kind. I also realize that agency is very different than any other and conduct while a representative is non negotiable no matter who is right or wrong. Lastly, in speaking w another agency from a different county, my understanding is when things like this happen, the lady has to inform her state leadership. They state it is almost guaranteed her state office was made aware first thing by herself then at the local level. I just say that because while it seems so loud here locally, I don’t believe they truly realize the support and guidance that was provided or received from the top. There was a duty to inform her superiors which I’m told was the Supreme Court division in Indy. After looking at their website I do see a lot of statements that back the agencies decisions. But again, no one was going to be happy, including her. The mayor should have never sent the email on letterhead. The volunteer should have spoke up sooner. The wife should have went to the director. The director should have had an opportunity to help.

It wasn’t a bad car show but it sure wasn’t like anything the old group did. But I have to say people aren’t against helping kids. We all know that. What they are against is a bad management and board that uses a group meant to help kids, to carry out the mayor’s revenge schemes. For a group that has to advertise using billboards around town to get volunteers , you’d think their board would care more how their director treats the few good volunteers they have. Maybe all the negative publicity will help them get more people maybe not. But I don’t think people who don’t know the director will be inclined to trust her.
