Comments: With all due respect, why should the state and federal governments bail people out every time the Ohio River floods. People have chosen to build in these places like Hanover Beach so they should bear the cost of protecting and repairing their homes - Not My Tax Dollars. Same goes for ocean front homes and condos. The state and federal governments should not be funding repairs to private businesses or homes. That’s what private insurance is for.
Regarding the Madison pool, it was a stupid idea to build such an extravagant ($12M+) in the floodplain. Our financial guru Mayor forgot about ongoing maintenance costs.
Now, he wants to open a new driving range at the old dump (police shooting range and believes that will alleviate the departments $500,000 annual budget shortfall under this administration. Disappointing that for two years now, the City of Madison hasn’t offered any summer youth programs. What a lousy Mayor.

Comments: I see on WRBI that "Gov. Declares State of Disaster Emergency for Dearborn, Other Counties," and I see "Other counties included in the declaration are Bartholomew, Brown, Clark, Crawford, Delaware, Gibson, Hamilton, Harrison, Lake, Madison, Marshall, Martin, Owen, Perry, Posey, Spencer, and Warrick."
Not for Jefferson?

Comments: Courtney just put out a call for flood volunteers . NOT volunteers to help the people or businesses hit by the flood but to work free for the city and yeah he wants you to feed city workers instead of ma and Pa and the kids hit hard by the flood. What a POS. People if you really want to help victims of the flood then volunteer down at Hanover Beach, or maybe Vaughn Drive Look around you there are people who lost almost everything and now thanks to the nimpcompoop performance of our EMA and elected politicians they may not get any help from FEMA. The city and county will still get boat loads of money but NOT the people.

Comments: So I saw where Governor Braun finally made a disaster declaration for several counties in southern Indiana. Jefferson County isn’t on the list. Supposedly city and County officials and EMA True are working with agencies to try to get us added Looks like the county and city have their head up their muddy backsides yet again
They promised to update us- anybody heard anything?
Admin reply: JEFFERY Burleson From local EMA
Governor Braun recently put out a disaster declaration for several counties in southern Indiana. It is unclear why Jefferson County is not on that list. We are working with State, Local and even Federal partners, and anticipate being added to that list soon.
Thank you for your patience please know we are working diligently for all residents in Jefferson County.
We will update you as more information becomes available.
This means no grants for citizens - no help for citizens but city and county get money because citizens homes were damaged.

Comments: I hear all the complaining about the Mayor, Governor, and the President. The funny thing is the vast majority around here keeps voting for them. Then I gotta listen to “I didn’t think they would do all this.” Or “they can’t do this.” In fact, they told us they would do it on a federal level with Project 2025. Those of us tried to tell you this was going to happen. We would get “your just drinking the MSNBC Kool Aid.” U were told but you had to listen to the crazy conspiracy podcast to reinforce ur decision despite the facts. You will do it again when Steinhardt runs for Mayor. Then soon after he gets in office we will read posts. “He is just as bad as Courtney.” I can’t believe he treats us with such disrespect.” If a family member dies because they can’t get the cancer treatment they deserve. Or can’t afford to pay for the medicine. It’s not on the Mayor, Governor, or President. The blame starts with u.

Comments: Saw on WAVE News this morning where Gov. Braun is going to sign into law when it comes across his desk, that they are going to take away the Disabled Veterans tax exemption. I admit it benefits my husband and me, but there are so many vets that rely on these exemptions to help make it. Why don't they take away the tax exemptions from the rich and leave the Veterans alone? I would bet my last dollar that none of those lawmakers bringing this to the table never served and don't live on a fixed income like we do. My husband served 22 yrs in the Army and paid his dues. Now he is totally disabled and hasn't been able to work. So where is the fairness in this? Yes I am pissed, not only for us, but for all the other Veterans that are worse off than him.

Comments: I find the current budget reconcilliation bill in congress, with the debt ceiling increase, as distasteful as you do Charlie. But the reality of the federal budget is: the debt ceiling has been raised dozens of times (or more) over the past 5 (or so) decades, by both parties, to fund the governments insatiable appetite for spending. In early 2023, congress didn't raise the debt ceiling, they just "suspended" it until Jan of this year. As I pointed out earlier, our government issues MORE debt, to finance "existing" debt. Were they not to increase the debt ceiling, the government would DEFAULT on its debt! A default would result in an economic collapse that would make the crash of 1929 look pale in comparison. Biden had no choice but to suspend the debt ceiling in 2023, Trump has no choice but to increase it now. A question for the armchair economists here; increase the debt ceiling or default? As far as the tax breaks in the bill, I don't think the million and billion-aires in this country care one way or the other. But guys like you and me do. Tax bills aren't written by guys like you and me. They are written by elected officials who are millionaires when elected or become millionaires afterwards (both parties). So yeah, rich people benefit. If they didn't, neither would we - pick you poison.
