Comments: I realize the mayor announced just a little ago around 6ish that the flood will crest (reach its highest level) on Wednesday. I'm not sure where Bob got his information but the information I am providing is direct from the NOAA sites. Those are the sites Clifty Creek, Markland lower and McAlpine upper update numerous times each day during active floods. All three sites show MONDAY as the crest. Markland and Clifty Creek both show a crest around 2AM. NOT Wednesday- if you wait- it will be too late. You must act now especially if you are located on Vaughn Drive.
CLIFTY CREEK: crest around 2am Monday April 7th at 459.30-- in 1997 the crest was 460.90. so just a few inches less. The forecast assumes rain fall predicated up stream from Madison for the next 3 days. If more rain falls than predicted the crest will be higher. Regardless the 1997 flood was in all homes and buildings located on or near Vaughn and will flood the winery 7-8 foot in the tasting room. The Heritage Center has had volunteers all day assisting moving items from their basement which remains at risk but will not likely be inundated as the winery will.
Sunday at 2am the level is projected to be 454.7 and at 2pm it will 458.66. That is a rapid rise! If you live on Vaughn Drive you need to be out of your home no later than Saturday evening. Please remember sand bags will not help because once the water crests it will stay high at least 2-3 days with current predictions. The risk models show there is a likelihood the water will remain high for 5 or more days. In 1997 it took 7 days for the water to drop below its crest and begin to move out of homes. Once it begins to drop it usually drops quickly. Remember when the river rises it will bring massive current and with that large debris. You are NOT safe in your home. in 1997 a Vaughn Drive home had a large log break through its west brick wall and nearly collapse that side of the house. AGAIN- do not wait til Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
Markland Dam is showing similar predictions as Clifty Creek. However their crest is going to be lower than the 97 level. Still Markland gives us an idea of whats coming our way- Clifty tells us what is actually here. Both are useful information as is McAlpine in Louisville.
OTHER: 256 has numerous wrecks. Hanover at the stop light near the gas station is heavily flooded and unsafe for traffic. GO AROUND. tjh

CROOKED CREEK HAS RISEN AND CONTINUES TO RISE. IF YOU ARE STILL MOVING - BE PREPARED TO EVACUATE QUICKLY.
WALNUT STREET REMAINS IN JEOPARDY FOR FLASH FLOOD- THE DRAINAGE "DITCH" IS ONCE AGAIN BLOCKED - MOVE EVERYTHING UP AND BE PREPARED FOR A QUICK EVACUATION.
Please check on Heidi on Walnut Street- Gabby has wee ones and may need help-
Those on Vaughn Drive Near Mr. Bennetts old place.---- You will likely flood within the next 24 hours. Sandbags will not help- the water will rise too high and will remain high for several days. Sandbags only work safely for quick rise and fall.
Sandbags for those who think they might help are available at the jail on the hilltop. I do not know if they can be delivered.
We are doing fine- thank you to all our friends, the community and various officials for their volunteer work and support. tjh
PS- come pick tulips and daffodils they will be under water by Sunday morning in the south garden and by Sunday evening in the north garden. Take all you want. tams

Submitted by Name: FLOOD UPDATE From: URGENT
Comments: URGENT NOAA has updated Clifty Creek, Markland in Vevay and McAlpines in Lousiville. The current projections show a flood near equal and possibly EXCEEDING the 1997 flood. I will try to get Jeff some pictures later tonight so you have a point of reference.
Also many of you know Larry Henry as a past school board member and community leader and most importantly a father, grandfather and beloved friend to so many. Please keep Larry and his family in your thoughts today. If prayer is part of your faith as it is in the Henry family please add them to your prayer list. Larry is currently hospitalized and his condition is both critical and unstable with heart issues.
thank you to all those who have reached out to assist us at the winery today and offered your support. come pick some tulips and daffodils today and tomorrow before the flood washes them away. Tjh

Comments: I will do my best to continue to answer questions and make posts but please be patient for the next week to 10 days I will be "under water" with lots of additional duties as well as some red cross work.
REGARDING IVY TECH- I have official records which show a student from a VERY prominent family, who own a local industry and was given significant preferential treatment. It appears as if the class was created for this young man and him alone. I am told no other students were allowed to register for the basic English composition class but he was able to complete it in just four weeks compared to the normal semester requirement either 8 or 16 weeks for all other students.
GRANT MONEY: It is my understanding READI tax dollars will be shifted to phase one which is already underway and will connect the Heritage Trail to the state park. The funds will not be returned to use elsewhere. Lily funds were gifted to Hanover College as part of Lillys community engagement-enhancement efforts for small colleges across the entire state. The public can have an opinion about what Lilly does with their money but the truth is your opinion doesn't matter- its Lilly's money and they gave it to Hanover College based on what the college proposed in their request. The college has every right to speak with Lilly and discuss the changes to the "death trail" or to propose other options which would benefit the communities in and around Hanover- which does include Madison and Jefferson County in the event that was not understood from previous updates.
Flash Flood warnings are in effect. The Ohio is expected to crest higher than the 2018 flood but not as high as 1997. Check on family and friends near creeks and the river. Hanover Beach is tops on the list Cindy H. is requesting help today. If you need help you can send to JB and he will post for you. tjh

Comments: The last time the Ohio River crested at or near 458 was April 18th of 1948. For recent perspective - the Feb 26th 2018 crest was 457. So if you remember where the river was about 7 years ago then you know it will be a foot higher. If you wonder how that compares to this past February’s rise - it’s a much bigger problem but not as bad as the 1997 flood and no where near the 1964 or 1937 flood. Folks in Hanover Beach already need your help moving. Most use the winery and pool as landmarks for downtown flooding. If you have friends or family along the river on either side now is the time to offer help. The river will rise today but will move quickly Sunday. Flash floods remain a risk. I will do my best to keep you updated. Tjh

Comments: Such a waste of money. But I guess when you are spending someone else's money it doesn't bother the check writer and friends.

Comments: yes, the grant money goes somewhere else. What is wrong if it goes somewhere else that is put to better use even though its in another community. It's like Mr. Shaefer said, "it's a waste." Why be a big part of the problem? Get the grant money when the situation meets the needs of the community.

Comments: Here is the problem with grants. If you don't use it when it's offered the grant can be taken back. So, that means you can't accumulate the money for a bigger and more useful projects.
