Thank you for the info on Univ. of Cincinnati- however I need the major or degree program. Full time students at U of C -like virtually all major universities- usually take 15 credit hours or 5 - 3 hour classes a week . You must take a minimum of 12 hours or four classes to be considered for full time which makes one eligible for grants, loans and scholarships. Generally speaking one needs AT LEAST 120 credits to acquire the simplest of degrees in non science programs. Those studying medicine, nursing, engineering or other “hard” sciences will end up taking more classes as well as lab time which does not earn as many credits as “regular” classes. Sociology, Psychology , teaching etc are much simpler programs with much less if any lab time. Internships and practices are a different bird all together. So I can’t help much if I don’t know the degree and which courses were APPLIED to the degree.

Bottom line for a biology or chemistry course there would be two hours of lecture and 3 or 4 hours of lab each week. Total time is 5-6 hours but unlike all non science courses, the credit is not one per hour, instead a person taking a biology or chemistry class would only get 4 credits for 5-6 hours of class/lab. Nursing, Pharmacy and medical labs are far more challenging with students spending up to 30-32 hours in lab or class vs other degrees where students only have 15 hours of “class” time.

It is entirely possible to complete one’s degree early by simply loading extra courses - but 18-21 or even 24 credits is a heavy load. Purdues nursing and pharmacy programs all required 18 and on occasion 21 credit load. Still with certain degrees you must complete certain classes in a certain order . In other words senior course #2 is often listed as -#402 and that class is only offered to students who have completed the prerequisites of the 100,200 and 300 levels. Further more that course is usually only offered in second semester. Altering from those schedules requires approval from department heads and entails a minimum of A average in all previous courses , review of aptitude and study skills etc. Where Ivy Tech will nurture or support failing students- major Universities won’t waste time & reputation on “marginal” students. There’s a reason Purdue has a huge amount of money from federal and state government as well as alumni- it doesn’t graduate students who barely get by and it maintains one of the best reputations in the nation for graduating exceptional professionals and running some of the best programs and research facilities in the nation. The same is true for IU -

If a student had 33 credits from Ivy tech but had to do 3.5 years of “regular” college , that tells me less than 15 credits actually transferred- more than likely freshman english and maybe freshman public speaking - so drop a note again with the degree and the credits that transferred and APPLIED to a degree. Obviously Uof C is not an Indiana College that would be required to “accept” and certainly no college isrequired to “apply toward a degree”.

Sometimes we get what we pay for- Ivy Tech credits are cheap but they don’t help acquire a degree. They may get you college Croft’s but that’s simply not enough to graduate unless one is pursuing a “general studies” degree- which is essentially worthless in today’s market . Send the program and degree and which credits transferred or didn’t. If you happen to live in Marion and paid for out of state education the cost would have naturally been higher . Gotta go. In a hurry. Tjh

We need a lot more guns in this country. It's the only way we're going to solve the problem. If you have a disagreement with someone then you both shoot and whoever comes out alive was right.

Witness 1 was driving past Clifty Falls State Park. Witness 1 observed a male subject standing near a vehicle near the north entrance to cliffy Falls State Park. the male subject was on their telephone and they were holding a gun. Witness 1 observed another subject in close proximity, also standing near the north entrance of Cliff Falls State Park.

Witness 1 became concerned of their observations. Witness 1 turned their vehicle around and contacted police. When Witness 1 returned to the area of Clifty Falls State Park, there was a subject now on the ground. The subject, Witness 1 previously observed on the phone and holding a gun was now in a vehicle.

A male from Georgia was incarcerated on a manslaughter charge. I’m sure this will be a case that will be subject to self-defense, and for a jury to decide.

Football finished up last night. Did the administration get the guy they wanted or did they go for one of the other 2? Volleyball got the guy the administration wanted so I assume the AD won’t make a decision. Dr. Brown will have her pick and that’s what they’ll do. And if you don’t like it then you won’t have a job. Girls soccer begins middle of next week. They got a late applicant that they seem to think will be their choice.

To avoid confusion about Ivy Tech credits being accepted or not and whether or not credits are applied to your degree credits - I’m asking JB to decline posts that say credits are accepted unless you provide the university and the degree to which you or your family member applied.

Currently Ivy tech credits are accepted but rarely applied to a degree from Purdue or IU and Only a few applied at Ball State or Indiana State or “Evansville”. Private Colleges rarely apply credits because they need the revenue from all students for all courses. Again accepted and applied are two very different things.

Again everybody will say they accept low end credits but they will NOT apply those credits to a degree. Testing out of a university course is a great option for students who have foreign language skills or advanced studies beyond “core” classes. Testing out is not the same as Ivy Tech credits. Once again if you want to disclose the university and degree program to which Ivy Tech credits apply please include that information in your post. I will verify with the university’s curriculum guidelines.

It’s important that parents not assume their child will have an associate degree or credits towards their “real” university degree when they will NOT. College is very expensive and assuming a child only has to pay for half the college credits when in fact twice that amount will be owed is a true tragedy for those who only planned for half the cost. This is not about “slamming” Ivy tech- it’s about cutting through propaganda and image building to help parents know how to plan and students know what to expect. Let’s be fair to our families and kids and put them first instead of worrying about Ivy Techs Public image or MCS failure to provide a quality high school education. Thank you. Tjh

College is not what it used to be. Anyone that is going to go a state school can and should take advantage of Ivy Tech. Myself and many others my age (mid twenties) have had years and thousands upon thousands of dollars saved by taking IVTCC classes in high school and beyond. The classes are not just transferred as electives, I have had many accepted in place of math, science, and English classes. Just my $0.02

Yes there was a shooting at the park this afternoon. I think approximately 3pm-ish. The “suspect” was apprehended and if I understand correctly is from Georgia.

Also thank you for the messages and texts. Also for the anonymous letter. I will do my best to get to your questions as soon as I can.

Tami

I was walking the bottom of Heritage Trail this morning and was very disappointed to see that Doug Helton of Madison Iron Works decided to push the construction debris from the recent fire at his facility over the hillside and into the creek. What an eyesore. He should be forced to clean that up. Why so cheap Doug, your insurance would have paid to clean-up the mess.
