Comments: Would somebody please put the Madison Football program out of its misery. Another shutout loss that could have been much worse Providence didn’t play their JV and freshman teams the whole 2nd half.
50+ years of losing football is enough. What a waste of resources.

Comments: So it appears to me, that after seeing the city council meeting, and reading all these answers and results and comments. It seems to me that Mayor Bob in the city council are going to do just as a damn please. Is there no way of stopping this? At all? I would guess that Thevonow has come to the same conclusion and is trying to keep it from smarting as bad as it's going to but it's going to smart anyway. It just makes me a little upset, that you have a handful of people that want to do the worst thing for this community every time. They don't want our input! They're just going to do as they please. The only way to stop that is just to get rid of them. Every one of them! And when they come banging on your door wanting your vote just kindly tell him that they wouldn't listen to you, so you're not going to listen to them. I save both them all out every single one of them that's holding office right now just vote everyone of mouth they don't listen. County Council city council commission all of them. They just act like we're a bunch of babies, don't have a mind of her own and can't think for ourselves. Again I ask is there any way at all to stop this? Can we get some kind of injunction? Something to just put us all to it indefinitely. Or in this case until Bob is gone.

Comments: Don't forget if you shop at Kroger and use your Plus card you can designate the animal shelter to receive monetary donations when you shop. You can also do the same with Amazon.

Comments: The sad truth about the animal shelter is that it is HORRIBLY UNDERFUNDED. This is a county- city cooperative arrangement. The county oversees the shelter and both Hanover and City also add funding. But the bulk of the responsibility and funding falls to the county. There is no other city or county government service that is forced to collect donations to provide minimal services. If you want a no kill shelter then there needs to be a medical fund for minor illness and injury so that staff can send your lost or adoptable pets to the vet for care. Severely injured or terminally ill will need to continue to be humanely euthanized to prevent suffering.
I would like to see the police required to stand on a corner and collect money for gas and new uniforms. I’d like the sheriffs office to have a bake sale to buy bullets and vests. Both city and county clerks can sale chocolate bars to pay for office supplies. Judges can hold a 5k run in partnership with the prosecutors office. The mayor can do collections cans for consultant fees. County assessor and treasurer can do cookie tins at Christmas. The commissioners can take a little from each of the handouts to organizations that have more than a million in their accounts- for example girls inc. let’s give a few thousand to the shelter. Let’s cut some fat off some of the other organizations that ask every single year for handouts instead of doing their own fundraising and planning. Or we could simply ask each city and county department to cut their budget by just $500. And shift that small amount from each department to the shelter for medical care.
Furthermore - as far as I know the shelter staff pay is incredible unjust. The vast majority of county employees make a low but decent wage compared to the city. But not the shelter. Their wages are essentially poverty wages and it’s truly unfair that even though they do some of the hardest work including weekends and “snow days” or holidays - they must tend to your lost pets 7 days a week. So there are no three day weekends or Christmas off. Someone must always be there. The Humane Society has fought every year for increased funding. Perhaps we could talk the mayor into using 5 million in tax dollars to subsidize the shelter instead of Luxury apartments in the flood plain. This is an important public service. Government officials need to fund it. A minimum budget begins at 600 thousand . I think it’s an embarrassment to this community and county and that an essential public service is required to beg for adequate funding. So call up the mayor , the chief, the commissioner, recorder etc. ask them to reduce their budget by a minimum of $50o to help fund shelter medical fees. Tjh

Comments: I respect Weary ‘s opinion. I disagree these people have the MAGA attitude. You need to bring it. Who cares if you make em mad. Being timid is what these people want and you will never change there mind. The only thing that will get these rock heads attention is absolute heat. They need to know there name will be mud forever. Then they will change their mind. If you use reason all they will do is triangulate the situation. They will say “we listened but the project was too much of an opportunity for Madision. Thanks for your input.” The only way to get there attention is to stop being timid. Because they have proven the past few months this won’t get the job done. They need to understand there vote has a lifetime consequences if they want to continue to live here.

Comments: Everyone is frustrated by the lack of response from the mayor and most city council members regarding the rezoning and proposed luxury apartments. A simple acknowledgment and response of emails or phone calls would do wonders. People feel they are not being respected or heard by the ones they elected. Council members were elected to represent their districts and the best interests of the city - not the mayor.
Name calling, phone calls in the middle of the night will do no good. It will only incense the members and make them dig their heels in further.
I don't understand why each council member does not speak their piece at the meetings. Share their thoughts with the people that elected them.
A Facebook warrior tries to say it is screaming democrats. She is dead wrong. This is a bipartisan issue. Democrats and republicans alike are against the proposal.
I urge the city council members to speak up. Talk to your constituents. Answer the emails and phone calls. Do your job!
Kudos to those that show up at the meetings, the fliers, the ads, the signs. You are appreciated.

Comments: Call the Council and mayor every day to say vote no. Leave messages. Send emails. Send texts. Call them out when you see them on the street or at a restaurant or bar. Don’t give them a moment of peace until they listen to the people and vote NO.
