As a former community and economic development consultant, the Plan to construct and subsidize market rate apartments on Madison’s Riverfront is absurd on so many levels.
First of all, why would you vote to subsidize “market rate” apartments to the tune of approximately $5-7M on Madison’s premier asset - the riverfront. Are you prepared to subsidize with $100,000 of your own money?
Subsidies should be used for development the City wants (like rehabbing the building across from the Post Office for LMI housing, not luxury apartments on Madison’s Riverfront.
I thought Courtney and the Steinhardt boy were supposed to be such smart businessmen.
To top it all off, the site is in the floodplain. I believe we’ve had 4-5 floods since 1997, so once every 5-years or so, these folks will be homeless for 10-14+ days for the river to drop and clean-up. Not if, but when.

Comments: Since when do we applaud Politicians for doing there job and listening to voters? This is what they are supposed to do. They work for the people. After all these weeks of this controversy. Krebs is ready to listen. It is apparent she is only going to listen to Courtney’s side and call it a day. The only thing we can do is never vote for these people again. We can’t waste anymore time on them. They are who they are.

Comments: Krebs is going to do her job and listen to constituents this one time. Bartlett is hurt beyond belief Dattillo is going to meetings but not paying attention Schaefer has his phony survey on Facebook Storm had his meeting on Saturday night of labor day Wilbur is ignoring emails and phone calls. It is all a way of trying to triangulate the problem. Let's just act like we are truly looking at both sides before I vote. Then we will vote with Bob anyway. But we can say we made our decison based on facts. What these Council people do not realize. A vote of "No." Is there one way ticket out of this. They vote "No." People will let it slide. They vote "Yes." There life changes. Then when it goes to court and they lose. The Apartments will not be built. They will have lost respect with the community. They lose all around. I guess there consolation prize is they get to drink with Courtney and live in misery!

Comments: Per the original poster, Councilwoman Krebs did not say she was against the project. She said she was going to listen to her constituents, which is what an elected official should do. If her constituents are for the project, she should vote for it. If they are against it, she should against it. She shouldn’t vote based on what Charlie wants. Anti-Madison? Drama much???

Comments: I hear Carla Krebs is going to start listening to her constituents but has not flipped. If this is true. You mean to tell me she is admitting this week that she has not listened to her constituents up to this point. Some of you posters think she needs to be commended for doing what she was appointed to do in the first place. I gotta be honest. If it has taken this long for her to figure this out. She shouldn’t hold the position.
Come on people, if she wanted to listen she would have been at the meetings this week. If she would have been at the High School on Saturday she would have learned just as I did. I think the statement “she is ready to listen to constituents is just a ploy to release pressure. I do like Carla for the record. I just think she can’t handle the position.

Comments: I heard Councilman Bartlett was also at the Saturday evening meeting and complained his feelings were hurt. Why would his feelings be hurt he’s not the one being ignored or kicked out of meetings? I’m sick and tired of these Republican city council and mayor playing the victim card. More than 80% of people are disgusted with this entire riverfront project. That’s Democrats, republicans, Hilltoppers, Downtowners and every tourist who asks about a sign or talks with shop owners. Last time this town was this pizzed a school referendum went down 78% against. If Thevenow doesn’t run the Dems could put up Daffy Duck against Steinhardt and the duck would take it in a landslide.

Comments: Main Street posted they were in favor of responsible development. They would come out against it . So I won’t be buying my dessert and loft tickets anymore.
The Riverfront Development committee says they are against it but won’t say so coz the mayor appoints them and these arseholes would rather keep a board seat than speak out and protect the riverfront. So I’m not going to the big golf cart fundraiser or their big booze event on the river.
VMI is as worthless as ever . For all we know they found a way to steal money from the whole thing
Then you got the historic board to send Crusifili to do their dirty work and say in public this was a good idea and the building looks like it wouldn’t be a problem because new buildings aren’t supposed to look historic.
As far as Krebs don’t believe a word she says. She’ll flip as soon as the mayor pressures her and Datillo is the same darn way. Two women, no back bone which is better than Bartlett, Shafer, Storm and Wilbur. Who are 4 men with no backbone who like to kiss the mayors backside. Only credit goes to Thevenow who’s stood up from the very beginning and showed the public what was going on and listened.
Don’t count your chickens before the eggs hatch. Because honestly there’s enough chickens but they aren’t laying eggs they’re spreading lies and piles of bullschit.

Comments: If Carla Krebs has changed her position she needs to go public immediately. A simple post on Facebook, Instagram, or some other form to go public is essential. Then she can be commended. Until then she is still anti-Madisonian.

Comments: I was at the meeting last night about the Riverfront Development. I counted about 85 heads when people started rolling in about 6:45 pm. In my opinion, Council person Storm is clueless, narcisstic to the core, and doesn't care about you. It seem to me all 85 people are against this project. He really doesn't care. He thinks his position as council person is to vote for his needs not yours. He talks in circles that sometimes he contridicts himself. I do think he is a good person but there are flaws. Clearly, he doesn't understand the fundamentals of public service. In addition, every person who spoke was informed, polite, patient, and made great points all around. I learned new perspective by attending last night that I never considered. I was so proud of the people who attended. This is Madison at its best! Thank you for all who attended. This is my recap of a meeting held on Saturday night of Labor Day Weekend for those who could not attend.
