Comments: Reporter: Mayor Courtney the Madison river front is literally submerged under several feet of water. It's inside homes covering the pool and flooding several businesses. Have you a comment? Mayor: yes the riverfront is an excellent place to build luxury condos 😁😁

Comments: Hopefully, the Broadway Fountain is not in need of costly repair. Water supply to the first tier and to the tritons is minimal and severely struggling; water supply to the upper tier is nonexistent. Possibly, the City, (or a former employee) may have information available that will address necessary care and maintenance of the Fountain. Wishing this Landmark a speedy recovery. (The flowers are lovely.)

Comments: I apologize for my tardiness related to updates on the Hanover Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program and its failure to acquire accreditation. Without an accredited program - any DVM Hanover grads would not be eligible to sit for exams nor would they have much credibility in the Vet Med world. Dollars have already been spent from State Readi grant funds and if the program is stalled those funds will have to be repaid and any balance refunded. Hanover College continues to struggle financially so they are pushing the final decision on the DVM program to later this summer. Unfortunately, the new animal shelter plans include several design concepts which were based on Hanover having a DVM program. That's an entirely different and complicated issue.
The Ivy Tech vet tech program is moving forward- which is good---Because Ivy Tech continues to have problems at our local and state level. Governor Braun cut funding to Ivy Tech and local leadership continues to make questionable decisions such as hiring ones unqualified daughter to fill a non-existent position and then using Ivy Tech dollars to send the daughter to school to become qualified. In the meantime other positions are cut to make way for the daughters expenses. For those who attended Ivy Tech graduation at Belterra- rest assured- leaderships travel expenses came right out of your tax payer pocket. Maybe next year they can host graduation in their beautiful auditorium.
Yep- the mayor offended a ton of people by announcing those who did not favor a multi story building on the riverfront across the street from Fireman's Park were "against development and improvements in the community". In fact those against the riverfront condos- are actually against poor planning, inappropriate development, misdirection of public tax dollars, misrepresentation of project benefit and impact, disruption of scenic views, lack of transparency, spot zoning, poor public engagement, and honestly the list goes on. The one thing that I will defend Bob on is the plan does consider the restrictions for building in a flood plain. The design has a parking garage beneath the building which lifts the first floor living area out of the 100 year flood plain. If it didn't - they could not build nor would the project be able to be insured.
Regarding the trailer court off the east side of the foot of 421 entering downtown- the owners are very kind souls who live there and have been helping homeless folks as well as those who can't afford our high rents in our area. While the area is unsightly - it meets a need that current community leadership is not addressing. For a feel of our homeless problem just head up the path east of the factory about a block from the trailer court. Considering the amount of dollars willing to be given to wealthy business persons wanting to build condos on the riverfront- maybe a few thousand could be shifted to "green-scaping" to help hide the view or the city could offer a more than reasonable purchase price. I dont know.
Brauns team is still struggling to get data together to get a federal disaster declaration. Therefore those citizens hit hardest by the flood are SOL.
again hope your day is wonderful. tjh

Comments: The “one big beautiful bill” was submitted without any references to overtime, tip or social security tax protections. However that doesn’t really matter- the bill was defeated in committee by a group of far right (MAGA) republicans who voted to not advance the bill to the house floor for a vote because “it didn’t go far enough”. They specifically demanded that cuts to Medicaid begin NOW and not wait until 2029 among other things. It was a glaring example of vast differences in the GOP party. On the surface most of the gop have been intimidated into supporting #47. Few have spoken against his agenda. However, in this case, a splinter group of MAGA- doomed the bill which again did not contain the promises he had made. I cannot tell you why they were omitted.
On a different note- nearby Superior Vault and Steve Leach will be heading up a donation drive for Eastern Kentucky. Between floods and tornados the area has suffered immensely. Please watch for Steve’s post and donate if you can. Thanks for dropping me a note Steve.
It’s beautiful out there- stay safe and have a wonderful day. Tjh

Comments: I would like to see people take a look at who blocked the bill tostop taxing tips, the Trump tax cuts, no tax on overtime. Just think what that money would do if people had the money to spend on products, grocerys.Instead of our government sending it to other countries for nonsense. So when you vote for congress vote for someone looking out for you. Likewise in Madison do the same. Your vote can make a difference. Doesn't matter what party. I know the political favors that go on.

Comments: The American dream is to own a house, not rent one. No pace money should go to landlords. If they cant afford to fix it, sell it. I've noticed the biggest landlords in town are usually well represented in local gov. We need a mayor, someone who is a true American and not a little sneak

Comments: Does any longtime resident of Madison really think the people in government now actually care about what is best for you? They think they know what will bring in high income tourists. And this ladies and gentlemen is what this town is about now. Not residents who have supported the schools and their scholars and athletes. So glad I am not a young family hoping to make this my home.
