Comments: The tif/ redevelopment commission is responsible for approving the bond for the development. It looks as if the approval is already been made although the minutes don’t directly state it’s for the riverfront condos.

Comments: To whoever controls the timing of the lights on Main St. Why in the name of G*d do you keep changing the timing during the week when there are no festivals. I understand doing it when there is going to a bunch of people driving on Main, but on any random day a person should be able to catch the green light at Craigmont and travel East while driving the speed limit and NOT have to stop at every red light until you get to Jefferson St. My pet pet peeve.

Comments: I think Bob found out he has bigger fish to fry than with that ridiculous court case. Scudder is in some hot water over a recent deposition. Only time will tell if it continues to be covered up, or if Bob has the backbone to address it before he starts getting some tough questions.

Comments: if the riverfront is developed in to new buildings then the historic boards should fold and all citizens have control of their properties. only fair

Comments: My apologies- one member of the board is appointed by city council. Below is the list of names who sit on the tif- redevelopment commission:
Hopefully JB will activate the city website link to the Tif/redevelopment board- you can read a brief summary about the boards purpose. The most important of which is issuing bonds.
John Grote President Mayor Dan Hughes Vice-President Mayor Joe Craig Secretary Mayor Cary Strouse Board Member Mayor David Sutter Board Member City Council
Based on their minutes and agendas- it appears the commission reviewed a large bond in March and voted to approve April 8th. The minutes are uncommonly scarce for these meetings - without much detail . But based on the speed with which things are being pushed through my GUESS is this the Bond/loan for the condo developer. The information about this board says Deputy Mayor Tony Steinhardt is the contact for economic development. Tjh

Comments: In case you haven't notice, the entire structure of downtown Madison has changed. Look around and see how many children are living there. It has become an unaffordable place for many to raise a family.

Comments: Thank you for all the questions about the condos, riverfront, tif zone, slush funds etc.
Here is what I know- the first condo is a done deal. It would take a massive outcry and threat to GOP election which is four years away. So there will be a push for this project to be completed in two years in hopes voters will forget the role of the local GOP- save one city councilman- Thevenow- who has been transparent and who voted against the project as it has been presented. Please note he didn’t vote against progress- he voted against this project as it’s been presented.
IMPORTANT- Pay attention to zoning- the change is not one “spot” just for this one time. It is a sweeping change meant to allow future development. Current spots under consideration are fireman’s park and the area of the “regatta building”. In addition rumors are flying concerning the area south of visitors center near the dog park and winery. That land is currently owned by the state.
There will be NO property tax dollars going to the general fund from this “improvement”. The existing revenue from the value of the empty lot will continue to go to the general fund. But because this project is in a TIF zone - the “new” property taxes will be dumped into the TIF fund - there is a committee appointed solely by the mayor that controls those dollars - that committee is called the redevelopment commission/board. They control millions of tax dollars that have been peeled away from the general fund in order to promote whatever special projects this small group deems best. They of course are not elected officials.
I’ll do my best to get back to this and the Ivy Tech scandal and well as the not so secret uprising at city hall Tjh

Comments: I would like to know what it cost the city tax payers for the dismissle of the case Mayor Bob had against a private citizen. That did not get dropped without payout. If taxs dollars was used it be nice to see how much. Who paid for the Indy lawyer tax payers?

Comments: Those City Council people r working for Bob and not there district. They do what he tells em. It is the worst kind of public service I have witnessed in my 72 years living in Madison.
