@ Charlie Cardinal

My wife goes to plenty of meetings at City Hall, you are correct. She wants to be informed. She doesn't want to get it second hand through social media. If more people were truly informed they might be surprised. Our town has great Grant writers that get Madison money other than tax dollars. How many tax hikes have there been in the last 6 years? I can only think of water and sanitation. Our infrastructure has to be updated. I don't mind spending an extra 30 cents per day to know when I turn my facet on, I will have water. How much did you complain when inflation was 9.2% a few years ago ?

Your wife visits City Hall all the time. She is in the inner circle. Instead of being defensive about golf carts. Why not send your wife down to City Hall and tell the Mayor to quit spending so much money. Maybe tighten the budget a little and we could put an end to this whole wheel tax thing. After all, you guys claim to be the Republicans who are fiscally responsble. After six years of the Mayors crazy spending. Clearly, he is all about tax and spend. Then maybe we can all back off the golf carts for ya.

@Bill
I have a license plate on my golf cart. I pay taxes on it just like everyone who has a motor vehicle. I also pay $
25 to the city for a permit. Are you required to do that? All golf carts are required to pay that fee. Maybe we need to put a wheel tax on everything that uses our roads and sidewalks. We could tax bikes, skateboards rollerscates, baby buggies and even handicapped scooters. Sound like a good idea?

For those of you who have no sense of humor, I'm being sarcastic.

Give up your obsession with golf carts, please!

Now the State has cut funding to public schools. Get ready for proposed wheel tax proposals and referendums on the ballot in the future. The schools such as the Madison Consolidated School System will be looking for alternative ways to keep up with there reckless spending.

Is it true that the city council wants to add a wheel tax to help pay for the streets? If so, does it include golf carts, etc. and motorcycles?

Those tax credits a developer may qualify for apply to their federal income tax burden by reducing it. No tax dollars are actually paid, the tax burden the developer created is reduced. So in the sense of reduced future federal income tax collection, it could be considered taxpayer subsidized but by using zero taxpayer money. Property taxes are not effected, just federal income tax. Those same federal tax credit can be purchased, traded and sold for qualified developers and owners. It's 88 pages of instructions to apply.
