Comments: Crystal Beach broke this town, mark my words. The grant for the project wouldn't have happened with a half * * * repair job, they specified complete redo and the city didn't have the money anyway but still did it. And it's only open 6 hours a day. Kudos to those of you with your own pools.

Comments: @Ralph, the event was a huge success. Wind became an issue on Sunday per H1. The Regatta organization wanted to have boats on the water but H1 said no. As for the concert, appeared to be a very large crowd on Friday and Saturday nights. If you think you can do better or have better ideas, please join the Regatta Organization and help out. The volunteers would be thrilled to have more help as they work tirelessly to put this event on with little to no thank you. I for one appreciate all they do.

Comments: @Madison,
I agree with you with all points regarding the Mayor. The man is bankrupting this city. He has zero business talking about Mr. Grooms Accounting practices.
I do think other than Pat Thevenow. We need to shift the money problems the City is currently going through to the City Council. Lucy Dattillo, Jim Bartlett, Karla Krebs, Josh Schaefer, the Storm kid, and Josh Wilbur let the Mayor get by with this stuff. They are just as complicit.
Yes, Mayor Courtney has shown his true colors. However, the members of the City Council keep allowing him to do it. People need to say it to them over and over until they make the Mayor stop!

Comments: So how was the Madison Regatta? Did the Mayor and Miss Madison have a storybook ending?
For the record, Charlie Grooms has the receipts regarding Ms. Madison.
I find it ironic mayor Courtney said in the Madison Courier, that Charlie and the Ms. Madison knew how to win championships but not keep good accounting of revenues and expenses. That coming from a Mayor that is bankrupting the city with little to no transparency.
I guarantee that Mr. Grooms has the receipts and the Mayot will end up losing this lawsuit.

Comments: In April the city passed a new ordinance concerning golf carts. Check it out. I'm not sure of the ordinance number. I have a licensed golf cart and I am allowed to drive on Main Street. I was pulled over twice this weekend ( never before) and when the officer noticed my license plate he apologized and told me to be careful. We all have different opinions on golf carts, but I do not know of any accidents with them. I know of people walking and being struck by vehicles. I have almost been hit myself. Should we ban cars and/or walking? I would rather be in a golf cart and struck on Main Street instead of a bike or motorcycle. Many more safety features. Contact me and I will give you a ride.

Comments: Panama City is a resort town that caters to tourists. Downtown Madison is a residential area. People choose to live here and vacation in Panama City. Those of us that live downtown do not want to be like Panama City.

Comments: For all you nay sayers about golf carts I just came back from Panama city and I can tell you that they are every where. The golf carts are allowed on the streets and can go anywhere. They are mixed right in with the cars, trucks and side by sides. Just because we have some that don't want to comply with the rules doesn't mean they should be stopped. The police need to start handing out tickets, once that starts happening maybe that would help get the message across to all, including the people who rent them out. Just saying!

Comments: Golf carts are out of control in downtown Madison. I have witnessed some responsible golf cart owners that obey the laws. However I have also witnessed others impede traffic, have kids hanging off of them, go down one way streets the wrong way and show a complete lack of respect for traffic laws.
I think the golf cart rental agencies rent to anyone with a license and once they leave the lot they have no idea what these renters are doing. .
It should be noted that City Councilman Bartlett has an interest in the golf cart rental business and is also listed as a member on the traffic committee.
