Yes, MPD did lose another officer to the county. MPD was * * * him over and he, along with many others, cannot stand Chief Scudder. They are also losing two others. One is transferring to county and another one is transferring to a department out of the county. Scudder is running everyone away.

Weren't some jailers arrested for stealing inmates money? Maybe these cops were given a choice. Leave town or be brought up on charges?

FBI stats say that for every 1000 residents you should have 1.39 officers. Madison population as of 2020 listed it at 12,357. That comes out to 17 officers. Madison PD currently has 35 budgeted positions. That is basically double the amount of officers. I personally believe that 17 would be to0 low of a number and 35 is defiantly too high. The population for Jefferson County is 32,428. The Sheriff's Department has 24 budgeted positions from the Sheriff on down. This would mean they needed 45 positions. If you take out Madison's population they would need 28 officers. With these numbers it shows the city is over staffed and the county is understaffed. Just putting out the facts for debate. I think that the law enforcement officers in Jefferson County do a great job as a whole and appreciate the job that they do. Thank you all for the service you provide for our community.

It looks like most baby boxes are installed by a non-profit, as of April 2023 Indiana had about 100 of the 153 total in the USA. I don't know how necessary they are--seems most of the poor in Indiana want their babies because they are the ticket to free government housing, increased food stamps, welfare and a free pass on any work requirements to get the benefits.

Jefferson county has 3 times the amount of law enforcement that is required for such a low crime low population area. County levitates towards what makes them money. Police just show up after crime . They need to get on their bicycles and save the tax payers some money. Down size or something

I've been told another madison police officer has left the department and taken a job with the sheriffs officer.... I belive he was there 2023 officer of the year and k9 handler, I wounder if it's a because of the mayor's treatment toward officers

Is it just me? Or do others think baby surrender boxes are useless? Hope people's taxes don't go towards installing and maintaining such ideas? What's wrong with dropping them at clinic of hospital or fire station or police station or school or etc....
